Fortune.com seeks associate editor

Fortune.com is seeking an associate editor who will work with more than a dozen reporters and two other editors on a fast-paced, high-volume desk that is a key part of Fortune’s digital strategy.

The ideal candidate will have two to three years of experience in a professional newsroom, assigning and editing stories with equal eyes toward speed and accuracy.

You will:

  • Spot news ahead of a trending peak
  • Help reporters craft stories in compelling ways for Fortune’s digital audience
  • Edit stories on everything from the latest Fed decision to chocolate-covered French fries at McDonald’s—and understand why each is important to our audience
  • Understand all of the elements that go into the packaging of a story—SEO, social, video, recirculation and interactive
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of AP style

You have:

  • 2-3 years of relevant experience
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high standard of editorial excellence
  • Experience working with social media platforms and analytics (Omniture, Chartbeat, etc.)
  • Experience (or an interest in) Business and Finance industries and beyond

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
