Forbes seeks video editor

November 4, 2013

Posted by Chris Roush

The Forbes Video team is seeking a full-time Video Editor.  Our small in-house NYC and SF teams produce most of the content on Forbes.com. In addition to videos for Forbes magazine and ForbesLife, we also shoot and edit videos for our Forbes Lists, conferences, news-based quick turnaround segments as well as more highly produced pieces. Our videos also appear on YouTube, Instagram and Tumblr. We are currently growing and expanding both our reach and our team. We work hard and have fun — sense of humor is mandatory.

Are you a Final Cut whiz who can tell a compelling story in two minutes or less? Do you like the business of Business?  If so, Forbes is looking for you.  We appreciate subtle impact in an edit: animating a single word, punctuating with the right sound effect or identifying the perfect music to push a story along.  If you like the challenges and opportunities of a start-up and the benefits of a seasoned company, read on.

Responsibilities include:

  • Edit and post-produce:
  • Segments based on Forbes’ archival footage, creating tight, engaging and news-worthy videos
  • Original and distinct multi-camera video storytelling ranging from quick turnaround to highly produced
  • Work closely with associate producer, video and editorial team to develop concepts for short videos (style can range from data-driven to quirky)
  • Gather elements and assets needed for both highly produced and quick turnaround videos
  • Upload and coordinate completed videos to all required platforms
  • Assist in programming and maintaining Forbes video platforms
  • Write heds, decks and tags as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Fast and fluid in Final Cut Pro
  • 2+ years video production experience
  • Relevant work/internship experience in news or journalism areas
  • Solid news judgment with thorough understanding of journalistic standards and values
  • Collaborative, flexible and creative thinker
  • Desire to be part of a highly motivated and growing video team
  • Self-motivated and disciplined with strong work ethic
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom
  • Strong communication skills
  • Voracious appetite for current viral trends
  • Fluent in social media
