Forbes magazine seeks copy chief

Forbes Media is currently seeking a Copy Chief.

The Copy Chief oversees all copy-editing and final editorial production for Forbes Magazine, and its related products, including Forbes Asia magazine, digital editions and bookazines and other material as requested.

S/He will implement and manage a system, manage a staff, possess a positive, a can-do attitude, and the ability to work fast, with meticulous attention to detail. Workflow will be dictated by the closing schedule, and does include evening work.

In this role you will:

    • Establish an editorial copy closing system and a new style guide
    • Manage a team
    • Polish and clean editorial content, with consistency and respect for the voice of the magazine, the story editors and the writers.
    • Proofread page proofs and communicate clearly with editors about proposed changes

To be considered for this role you have:

    • At least 5-10 years of experience in copyediting and/or copy desk management
    • Proficiency with InCopy, InDesign, WoodWing, and Microsoft Office
    • The ability to change gears often and easily as story priorities shift
    • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative nature
    • An understanding of the nuances of the work flow involved in the production process

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
