Florida Times-Union seeks business reporter

The Times-Union is looking for an experienced Business Reporter to help cover Jacksonville’s vibrant and diversified business community.

That means reporting on the self-employed, Fortune 500 companies and everything in between. From quick turnarounds to in-depth pieces, this reporter must have experience digging into complex issues and writing compelling stories.

This reporter will know how to build sources and use public records to write daily stories and develop strong enterprise work. This reporter will understand the importance of breaking news online and updating the website frequently to help grow the audience.

Qualifications:

  • College degree preferred.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including early mornings, days, nights and weekends as needed.
  • Must have previous reporting experience.
  • Must have ability to manage multiple projects and meet demanding deadlines.
  • Must have proven journalistic experience, work in a team environment, and communicate effectively and direct major initiatives.
  • Must have excellent communication, customer service and conflict resolution skills.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and current automobile insurance.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
