Florida paper seeks real estate/growth reporter

The Fort Myers News-Press in Florida is looking for a real estate and growth reporter.

The reporter will be responsible for watchdog and enterprise stories for all platforms, as well as daily coverage. The candidate will be responsible to take data such as home sales and analyze it to provide expert interpretations.

The candidate will write about the business of real estate. The reporter has to produce stories that affect all generations, Baby Boomers, Gen X and Gen Y. This candidate will be the expert on commercial and home real estate. The reporter would work closely with the South Lee/Collier real estate/growth reporter.  The reporter would be required to write a weekly column and do a weekly video.

The candidate must demonstrate initiative to dig up newsy stories that go beyond basic reporting from smart daily turns to eye-opening watchdog efforts. The successful candidate will break news in a highly competitive market and provide daily online updates and regularly contribute videos.

Candidates should be able to work independently, develop sources and consistently produce story ideas from this important beat. The candidate needs to be self-sufficient and highly motivated.  The candidate also must work with the audience analyst and content coach to experiment with new ways to cover news and meetings.

    • Bachelor’s in Communications, Journalism or equivalent in experience and education.
    • Five years of experience developing a personal brand and fan base.
    • Experience with advanced storytelling techniques on multiple platforms.

Typical Job Duties

    • Creates storytelling that accurately informs, entertains and engages specific audiences and platforms through the use of metrics. Works toward becoming the community’s leading voice in area of expertise.
    • Connects with the community through storytelling and outreach (social media, on camera, forums, community leadership, etc.) Provides thoughtful analysis of complex issues.
    • Works with content strategist and audience analyst to evaluate what’s working and what’s not, and develops ongoing plans to better satisfy audience needs.
