Financial Times seeks U.S. foreign affairs correspondents

March 13, 2025

Posted by Chris Roush

The Financial Times is looking for two experienced and enterprising correspondents to join our Washington bureau as we expand our U.S. foreign and defense policy team. These are demanding but rewarding roles, offering the opportunity to break agenda-setting stories and deliver insightful analysis at a moment of profound global change.

The successful candidates will have an excellent track record of cultivating sources and delivering scoops. They will be expected to navigate the power corridors of Washington—building relationships across the Trump administration, the foreign policy establishment, and diplomatic circles.

You will be an experienced reporter with expertise in U.S. policy towards Europe and/or the Middle East in particular. We are planning to divide coverage on a regional basis, so the beat will span the State Department, the Pentagon, intelligence agencies, and the National Security Council. Close collaboration with the FT’s global network of correspondents is essential, as well as coordination with our U.S.-China correspondent Demetri Sevastopulo.

These roles demand sharp, globally minded journalists who thrive under pressure and are comfortable with the intense demands of Washington reporting.

Please submit your application by the end of the day, Wednesday 26th March 2025.

Salary range

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $115,000 to $175,000. To ensure pay fairness, the successful candidate will be offered a salary within the estimated salary range based on a number of considerations including but not limited to: skill set; experience and training; certifications; and other business and organisational needs. This position is represented by the News Guild.
