The Financial Times is looking for a reporter to join the breaking news team in London. The team, which spans London, New York and Hong Kong, runs the FT’s successful daily live blogs and writes and edits major breaking news stories.

The team ensures that the first take on major news stories gets on to ft.com quickly, either as a standalone article or as a post on the daily live blog. The blog runs 24 hours a day during the week, and covers all the main political, economic and corporate developments, as well as movements in financial markets.

DUTIES:

  • Write and edit posts for the blog
  • Write and edit standalone news stories
  • Cover major financial market movements and corporate announcements
  • Run more focused, time-limited blogs on specific subjects. Over the past year the team has run successful one-off blogs on topics such as the UK budget, the US Presidential election, and the rise and fall of the GameStop share price in the US
  • Contribute to other major moving stories from time to time, either as a writer or an editor

SKILLS:

  • A collaborative reporter and editor – you’ll liaise regularly with the rest of the breaking news team and with the FT’s correspondents around the world.
  • Motivated and ambitious – you’re able to seek out news from across the wide range of topics that interest FT readers.
  • Versatile – you’re as comfortable on corporate and markets stories as on political and economic news, and happy to cover the major developments of the day whatever the topic.
  • Experience of live blogging would be beneficial, but is not essential.
