Financial Post in Canada seeks business reporter

The Financial Post is looking for an experienced storyteller to cover Canadian business news.

Working with a team of passionate and dedicated financial reporters and columnists, the successful candidate will write breaking news and develop feature packages for both print and online. The ideal candidate will leverage his or her sources to break stories on business and economic developments that are relevant to Canadians, as well as provide timely analysis and profiles of companies and business people.

She or he should be comfortable telling stories on a variety of platforms in a variety of ways, including the use of data, multimedia, video, audio and graphics.

The ideal candidate:

  • has reporting or editing experience at a major media organization;
  • is able to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment;
  • is a self-starter, constantly coming up with new ideas and pitching unique stories;
  • is comfortable with the language of business and finance, can read a balance sheet; and
  • has experience working across several platforms, including video.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
