The ideal candidate would also enjoy digging into public records, databases and agendas to find stories about the latest real estate sales, trends and development proposals.
We’re looking for a persistent reporter who asks tough questions but is respectful and professional in the process. Our audience includes professionals in real estate and development, construction, finance, economic development and business, regional planning, and transportation and transit.
The candidate needs to be able to detect trends and patterns and make sense of them for our audience. Attention to detail and ease with statistics are important for the reporter covering this beat.
Other requirements: Skepticism; curiosity; a body of published work that shows an ability to engage, explain and enlighten readers; demonstrated ability to break news; experience in highly productive newsrooms, and experience working under intense deadline pressure.
Desired: Journalism education; experience working with public records; experience with spreadsheets; and some knowledge of commercial real estate, development and city government.
