FedScoop seeks a tech reporter

May 8, 2025

Posted by Chris Roush

FedScoop seeks an experienced, enterprising reporter to join its team of award-winning journalists in Washington, D.C., covering the intersection of the federal government and the technology industry.

Government leaders are faced with defending against daily cyberattacks from foreign adversaries, managing the adoption of modern technologies like AI and cloud computing to support mission success and the delivery of citizen-centric services, and innovating to do more with less. FedScoop is the leading publication covering the storylines of this more than $100 billion federal technology ecosystem, which is increasingly capturing the attention of the wider public as the Trump administration’s DOGE targets the systems that house the sensitive information of Americans.

Our ideal candidate not only thrives amid the fast-paced demands of daily news but also aspires to produce impact-driven enterprise journalism. On top of this, those with experience developing sources in Washington or across the tech industry and turning tips into scoops will stand out.

Your responsibilities:

  • Lead FedScoop’s coverage of government technology to generate and execute fresh story ideas;
  • Write stories — from short hits to in-depth investigative features — that are delivered in a daily newsletter to 100,000+ subscribers;
  • Contribute to long-term special editorial projects that impact the tech community governmentwide;
  • Aid in the production of multimedia content, such as podcasts, social media explainers and more; and
  • Represent the FedScoop brand by participating in events, moderating panels and more.

Your experience:

  • 5 years of professional journalism experience as a reporter or editor;
  • Familiarity with technology and the federal government, particularly civilian and Cabinet-level agencies;
  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication or a similar field;
  • Strong communications and organization skills;
  • Strong knowledge of SEO, AP Style and social media; and
  • Experience with multimedia tools, content management systems and programming to create a polished final product.
