FedScoopAs a government technology reporter with Scoop News Group’s FedScoop.com, you’ll get all of the above, covering the $80-billion federal IT enterprise with a special focus on the emerging technology trends transforming the federal government and how it serves Americans.

Part of a fast-paced newsroom, you will write timely and engaging news and analysis stories circulated to 90,000+ subscribers through our Daily Scoop newsletter. Reporters are encouraged to take an enterprising and investigative approach to their work, seeking out untold stories that go beyond obvious Who, what, where, when and why. Likewise, FedScoop is driven to tell stories in evolving digital formats that better engage an on-the-go audience.

Some experience reporting on the federal government and technology is strongly preferred, but applicants with the willingness to quickly climb a steep learning curve are encouraged to apply. A background chasing down leads on Capitol Hill and exploring federal workforce issues is a plus.

Successful candidates, in addition to their savvy as an enterprising, digital storyteller, are team players, dedicated to the Scoop News Group mission and ready to roll their sleeves up as team players when called upon outside of their traditional roles.

Responsibilities include:

  • Report and write original news articles daily for FedScoop.com and other Scoop News Group properties, and develop long-term, multi-sourced enterprise stories on a regular basis;
  • Interview and cover the work of leading government IT officials and technology experts;
  • Extend the readership of your stories with SEO-friendly headlines and social media promotion;
  • Work with the Scoop News Group team to create multimedia content for FedScoop, FedScoop TV and FedScoop Radio.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of professional daily journalism experience as a reporter or editor;
  • Familiarity with technology and/or the federal government a plus;
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, preferably online/new media concentration;
  • Strong communications and organization skills;
  • Proactive, “can-do” attitude with strong problem-solving ability;
  • Able to work collaboratively with a team and independently as required;
  • Strong knowledge of SEO, AP Style and social media;
  • Experience with multimedia tools, CMS systems and programming to create a polished final product.
