Fast Company has an opening for a savvy and experienced staff editor to help steer our popular online technology coverage. Working with staff writers and freelance contributors, this editor will work on news-driven pieces, reported features, how-to advice, and product reviews. We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about generating creative ideas, covering technology’s impact—for good and bad—on business and society, and crafting high-impact stories that readers love.
This is a full-time salaried position with benefits. It will ideally be located out of our office in New York City but could be remote for the right candidate. It is represented by the Fast Company and Inc. union the Writers Guild of America-East.
Salary: $70,000
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Shape the direction and coverage of FastCompany.com’s Technology section, with an eye on sharpening its focus on the subjects that resonate most with the largest number of readers and adjusting priorities to reflect current trends.
- Assign, edit, and (as time permits) write a variety of stories, including both short daily items and longer-lead projects.
- Manage and judgeFast Company recognition programs such as the Next Big Things in Tech.
- Serve as a brand ambassador atFast Company live and virtual events
- As opportunities arise, contribute to the brand’s multimedia platforms including video, podcasts, and the print magazine.
What We’re Looking For:
- Five or more years of experience assigning and editing stories for a daily website.
- An ability to conceive and package imaginative, innovative stories and find fresh angles that rise above the internet din.
- Familiarity with major tech companies, the startup scene, and topics such as AI and consumer electronics.
- Solid contacts within the tech industry, and the ability to make new ones as stories demand.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- A familiarity with Fast Company, its editorial voice, and the types of companies and topics it covers.
- The ability to juggle multiple projects under tight deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced collaborative environment, with exceptional organizational skills.
- An established social-media presence and a savvy approach to sharing and promoting content on social media.
