Extra Points is looking for writers

I’d love to publish some newsletters from current college athletes (at any division, sport, etc.) about how major college reform questions impact THEIR lives right NOW.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Extra Points talks about the COLLEGE part of college sports. The newsletter features commentary, analysis and original reporting on major issues like NIL legislation, how college athletic budgets function, how athletic departments fit (and don’t fit) with the rest of the university, and how the entire enterprise really operates.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

I’m now talking to a gazillion suits about NIL, transformation committee, transfers, etc. might theoretically change college sports, but these questions aren’t theoretical for the actual athletes. I’d love to publish more of their thoughts and pay for them.

I am also always happy to accept freelance pitches from non-athletes, and even happy to accept freelance pitches from non-athletes that aren’t about athletes, so long as they fit the newsletter.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN SUBMISSION

  • Write a short introduction about yourself
  • Include a paragraph highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits
  • Attach links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.

COMPENSATION

  • $350 + commissions from new subscriptions from the article. We are happy to negotiate for higher rates + bonuses depending on reporting level or topic. A minimum of $350 can be guaranteed for approved articles.
