Episodes is looking for pitches on non-English-language TV available to American audiences.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Episodes publishes essays on TV, film, trans stuff, fiction, and other oddities from critic Emily VanDerWerff and a host of others.

ABOUT THE ROLE

No prior experience is necessary. I do like to see something you’ve written to get a sense of your style. I heartily invite POC writers and queer writers to submit pitches as well, even if you haven’t been published before. You just have to be eligible to work w/in the US.

One pitch I am very unlikely to take is “This pop culture object taught me something about my identity.” Every other pitch I get is like that, and while they are occasionally brilliant, I can’t have every other piece be in that vein.

I do publish a lot of newer writers but I do ask that you have some sort of previous writing I can look at.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN SUBMISSION

  • Write a short introduction about yourself
  • Include a paragraph highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits
  • Attach links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.

COMPENSATION

  • $150 per article
