Serving as a forum moderator, leading community discussion and offering readers a personal connection to local news.
  • Using public records law to obtain agency datasets otherwise unavailable to the public and using data reporting techniques to clean and analyze data for insights about trends, disparities and inequalities.
  • Using web-based tools like Flourish, Datawrapper and others to visualize data in compelling and engaging ways including charts, graphs and basic maps. Coordinate with photographers and graphic artists to produce photo and graphic art elements.
  • Preparing stories for web publication, including SEO headlines and drafting social posts. Tracking story performance with web analytics tools like Google Analytics and Metrics for News and leveraging insights to influence future reporting strategy.

  • Staying up-to-date on community issues across beats and identifying opportunities for collaboration with other reporters to add depth and complexity to stories within their beats. Identify and execute or collaborate on opportunities for in-depth projects on timely topics.
  • Occasionally report general assignment and breaking news stories

We want a reporter who has the ability to find never-before-told stories and tell those with videos, audio through social media channels. The job is based at The Bulletin in Bend, which is part of the EO Media Group, a fourth-generation, family-owned operation. If you think you can bring fresh ideas, strong reporting and engaging content to our readership, please apply.
