The position involves producing original news and analysis on the North American natural gas market and related industry developments affecting producers, pipelines and liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. We are looking for an experienced, resourceful and energetic reporter with strong experience covering US gas markets. He or she should also be able to work independently with little supervision and to find and develop original news and feature story ideas that will help differentiate Energy Intelligence from its competitors. Some editing duties will also be involved.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work as part of the team writing forward-looking daily and weekly features on a range of topics involving the natural gas sector in the US and Canada. This will include both markets, with a focus on how cash and futures trends are impacting supply, demand, exports and related issues, and general industry and corporate developments.
- Cultivate productive relationships with North American gas analysts, experts and industry sources to add depth and insight into market trends;
- Provide regular editing assistance to the editor of our weekly gas publication, Natural Gas Week, including filling in as the primary editor as needed to cover holidays or absences.
- Act as a subject matter expert in conferences, webinars, podcasts and videos.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Three to five years’ experience of covering energy commodity markets, preferably the North American natural gas sector.
- Comprehensive understanding of natural gas and financial terminology and concepts;
- A proven track record of breaking news;
- Strong analytical skills to gather information and spot and explain important trends;
- A love of primary source reporting;
- Excellent writing skills;
- The ability to prioritize and deliver daily, weekly and long-term assignments;
- Bachelor’s degree or other relevant professional training/diploma or equivalent experience
