Earth Island Journal is looking for writers

Earth Island Journal is seeking pitches for an upcoming special edition on urban environments. We are looking for on-the-ground reports, as well as personal essays, artwork, and think pieces of varying lengths. Please send us your pitches by March 15. We plan to make assignments by mid-April and would need full submissions by late June. The articles will appear in our Autumn 2022 print edition and online.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Earth Island Institute provides support to environmental action projects and to the next generation of environmental leaders in order to achieve solutions to the crises threatening the survival of life on Earth. Its publication, the Earth Island Journal, aims to inform and empower action by providing tough investigative news coverage of crucial environmental issues worldwide that are often ignored by the mainstream press.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN SUBMISSION

  • Write a short introduction about yourself
  • Include a paragraph highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits
  • Attach links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.

COMPENSATION

  •  We pay writers 25 cents/word for print stories. You can expect to earn about $750-$1000 for an in-depth feature story (about 4,000 words). For online reports, the fee is $150.
