Dow Jones seeks a financial news veteran to lead a newly established news operation in Barcelona, Spain focused on the needs of financial and business professionals.
The editor in this senior-level position, whose remit includes Europe, the Middle East and Africa, will oversee production of news, analysis and data for a wide range of subscribers who rely on Dow Jones content to do their jobs.
We’re looking for a hands-on journalist and experienced leader capable of making quick, effective decisions on news priorities. This editor will need to define and plan coverage in advance where possible, and be able to respond quickly and expertly to breaking news demands. This editor, while focused on the needs of Dow Jones Newswires and other professional products, will coordinate closely with Wall Street Journal editors to ensure the needs of all platforms are well served.
The person in this position person will hire, train, manage and develop a team of multilingual, news writers, copy editors, media monitors and real-time market-analysis specialists focused on professional customers.
This person will also work closely with colleagues beyond the newsroom – notably members of the product, sales, marketing and data strategy teams – to ensure a deep understanding of the needs of professional customers and that Dow Jones is taking advantage of opportunities to serve them in profitable new ways. For example, this editor will be the point person for developing data strategies and automation efforts, either in-house or with relevant partners.
To be seriously considered for this role, you must have considerable experience in a real-time news production environment, ideally in financial markets, equities and economic news. You must be comfortable with content-management systems and other forms of publication software. You should also be a problem-solver and someone who has the ability to think creatively and strategically, scoping out new directions to serve professional customers and working closely with colleagues across our professional product suite.
