Dow Jones Newswires seeks a publishing editor, contract in NY, New York

Dow Jones Newswires is looking for financial journalists with excellent news judgment for our real-time news-editing team in New York. This is an exciting role and an opportunity to join a fast-paced, vibrant and adaptable team publishing articles for the world’s premier business news outlet.

This is a six-month Fixed Term Contract with options to renew. Dow Jones Newswires provides news to The Wall Street Journal and MarketWatch, as well as nearly 100 million financial professionals on various platforms.

Your day will begin around midday with editing and writing market-moving news derived from corporate disclosures, such as press releases or SEC filings. As part of our team, you will also share the task of monitoring various feeds for news. The tempo of the job picks up when the U.S. stock markets close, at which time you will write and publish headlines based on press releases and edit copy.

You will:

  • Work in a fast-paced news environment as part of a team of editors and reporters.
  • Quickly discern the essential market-moving details from news releases, regulatory filings, press conferences and other information sources.
  • Write and publish headlines on the news.
  • Work closely with reporters on matters of style and substance.
  • Sharply edit for grammar, style, sense, jargon, accuracy, clarity, diversity and fairness.
  • Occasionally serve as a slot editor.
  • Uphold Dow Jones standards and ethics in your own work and that of others.

You have:

  • 3+ years of experience as a news editor.
  • Strong financial news judgment
  • A sense of urgency along with a capacity to remain calm under pressure.
  • A proficiency in grammar, style, sense, jargon, accuracy, structure, balance and fairness.
  • The ability to function within a team and consistently meet tight deadlines.

Pay Range: $48 an hour
