Dow Jones Media seeks data reporter
Dow Jones Media is looking for a data reporter to join a new multidisciplinary team working with multiple newsrooms.
We’re looking for someone with a reporter’s mindset who thinks company data are a better source than a company spokesperson. The right person smiles with glee when they discover a new data source, celebrates a successful FOIA response with a party and knows finding the headline buried in the data is the hardest part of the job.
The reporter must be proficient in the necessary tools to analyze and visualize data, which may include R, Python, SQL, Excel, OpenRefine and Adobe Illustrator.
The reporter will be part of an autonomous team that collectively includes a range of skills such as data analysis and visualization, illustration, coding and design. Members of the team will collaborate with reporters and editors across our publications on stories long and short with a focus on how we present information and tell stories to readers in our products and other platforms. Members of the team must be self-motivated and creative to approach stories from different angles, experiment and use data to learn from the results.
Dow Jones Media is a publishing group within Dow Jones that includes MarketWatch, Barron’s, Financial News, Mansion Global and Heat Street.
Applications should include a resume and cover letter.
