The Detroit Free Press, part of the USA Today Network, is looking for a seasoned reporter to join our award-winning autos team – one who can respond to breaking news, write sophisticated enterprise and occasionally do a watchdog piece.
As a member of this team, you will be writing about one of the largest, most complex industries in the world at a time when the industry is changing faster than perhaps at any time in the past 100 years.
The preferred candidate should have several years of business and finance reporting experience and/or experience writing about the automotive industry. The ability to cultivate sources and break news is also key.
The person hired will be part of a team focusing on the Big Three automakers, trends in the auto industry, and the impact of Trump administration policies on carmakers, including a potentially rapidly changing regulatory landscape, among other topics.
We’re looking for a reporter who can write authoritatively on industry issues – but who also understands writing about trends that appeal to average consumers.
We work in a fast-paced environment so the ability to write quickly on breaking news, post content and use social media is a must, as is brainstorming news ways to reach our digital audience.
