The Des Moines Register is seeking a growth and development reporter to produce enterprise and watchdog work concerning downtown development, new commercial development across the Des Moines metro, real estate and the housing market.
This reporter is expected to consistently break exclusive news on commercial and residential developments and industry trends. He or she will identify, produce and post growth and development stories, photos and video quickly and accurately across platforms: mobile, desktop and social media.
Source development is critical to the beat, including boards of Realtors, state and local housing officials, community planners and homeowner associations. Responsibilities also include tracking legislation and public policy on housing, real estate and development issues.
The growth and development reporter will use live chats, social media, video and other tools to replace or supplement traditional story forms. He or she will use metrics to understand what’s resonating with readers and will shape coverage to steadily increase audience. Duties include writing compelling headlines and employing SEO best practices to draw in readers. Database skills are a plus.
This reporter also provides general coverage of other business trends and topics as necessary and handles occasional general assignments.
