The Des Moines Business Record is seeking a full-time journalist to join its staff.
The position requires a strong writer who can develop a beat and write in-depth analysis pieces on a variety of business topics for our weekly print edition and website. This person must function with a great deal of autonomy, building sources on his/her beats and managing his/her story schedules.
This person is also given freedom to generate a majority of his/her own story ideas. This person must also be able to report and write daily business news items quickly and efficiently for our website and be able to keep a daily pulse on the community.
Previous business writing experience is a plus, however, it is not a requirement.
The candidate must also have a solid foundation in AP style, the principles of journalism and have the ability to interact and network with the community both in person and via social media.
Video production experience and strong technology skill that can help our organization move forward in the online world are major pluses. Basic photography skills are a plus as well.
Recent journalism grads to seasoned veterans will be considered for this position, and the role will be adapted as such.
