The right candidate will join our experienced staff to lead the Business Record’s coverage of the people, issues and trends affecting both the real estate and development community and its associated industries, as well as the effects of growth on the wider business community as a whole as the region continues to grow and transform.
The position requires a strong writer who can develop a beat and both write in-depth stories and cover the fast-paced commercial real estate beat on a daily basis across multiple platforms. In addition, the beat requires reporting on industries and topics that intersect with commercial real estate such as construction, banking and local government among others.
This person must function with a great deal of autonomy, building sources and managing his/her story schedules. This person is also given a great deal of freedom to generate a majority of his/her own story ideas.
This person must also be able to report and write daily business news items quickly and efficiently for our website, to continue our tradition of owning breaking news in this industry segment. In addition, this person will function as the primary reporter and editor of our weekly commercial real estate enewsletter, and annual real estate magazine.
In addition, this person must have comfort leading panel discussions in front of a live audience and have a desire to heavily network at key Business Record events and other industry related events.
Previous business writing experience and knowledge of the commercial real estate market is a plus; however, it is not a requirement.
The candidate must also have a solid foundation in writing, AP style and the principles of journalism, as well as having the ability to interact and network with the community both in person and via social media.
Basic photography skills, video production experience and the ability to help our organization move forward in the digital world are major pluses.
