Denver Post seeks a reporter

The Denver Post is looking for an experienced reporter to cover the recent Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche. Qualified candidates must have a demonstrated ability to dig for stories, break news, produce enterprise and provide digital-specific coverage that draws readers.

You will write stories sophisticated enough for the most ardent hockey fans and also produce in-depth enterprise stories that engage readers of all interests.

Successful candidates must have a strong grounding in journalism and sports coverage and be able to pitch in on other beats during the off season.

This is a work from home opportunity, candidates must reside in the Denver Metro area.

What you will do:

  • Develop news sources and create story/coverage ideas
  • Break news in a competitive news environment
  • Produce stories of varying complexity and form
  • Seek out and report news for immediate publication on The Post’s digital platforms
  • Use digital tools and social media to report and promote Denver Post stories and other media, including podcasts
  • Understand and implement SEO techniques to ensure content reaches largest online audience. Stay on top of latest trends
  • Work closely with visual and digital journalists to create engaging story presentations, graphics and interactive materials
  • Must be comfortable interpreting story analytics

What you will bring:

  • Ability to multi-task and and be able to provide analysis of games on deadline
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience covering professional sports, preferably the NHL
  • Basic understanding of standard curation techniques
  • The reporter must be a great teammate, easy to work alongside and able to adapt when necessary
  • Demonstrated proficiency with social media tools
  • Strong reporting and writing skills

The hourly wage is $19.02 – $33.28.
