The Denver Business Journal is looking for an associate editor. This is a job for a detail-oriented journalist with a solid news gut to join our editing team.The associate editor will have a wide range of duties, some of which will change day by day, offering this person the opportunity to learn about all facets of our newsroom’s operations. We are a digital-first operation that also produces a weekly print edition. This role will have a hands-on role working on both digital and print.The associate editor also works with other departments to ensure the excellence and integrity of awards publications, events and other cross-departmental activities.The associate editor reports to the editor in chief.
Job Responsibilities
- Help edit news stories for the Business Journal’s digital platforms
- Assist with breaking news reporting as needed
- Execute social media and news alert strategy with guidance from editors
- Help edit the weekly print publication
- Conceive, edit and produce special sections for awards programs
- Coordinate with events team for awards programs, including outreach to judges and awardees
- Regularly participate in and attend Business Journal-sponsored events
- Work with the researcher to develop data-driven list packages
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 3-4 years reporting and/or editing experience in print or online
- Experience managing editorial projects
- Solid editor and communicator
- Able to get and stay organized
- Able to manage several projects at once
- Creative planner
- Stickler for detail
- Familiarity with AP Style
- Ability to collaborate across departments
