Defense One seeks business reporter

Defense One has an immediate opening for a business reporter based out of its Watergate headquarters.

Fulfilling Defense One’s mission to cover the new era of defense, the job requires a quality reporter and writer to cover the struggles of industry and government to navigate changing times.

The reporter will thrive at the nexus of the national security industry and government, focusing on explaining the challenges facing top executives, senior managers and commanders.

We’re looking for a reporter with an investigative spirit who has earned respect on the beat and who is an engaging writer with significant experience covering the defense industry.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of relevant experience and be deeply versed in the defense and national security community, and have demonstrated digital journalism and social media skills.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
