Debtwire seeks Latin America reporter

Debtwire, part of the Mergermarket Group and the leading provider of in-depth reporting and analysis for the global fixed income markets, is looking for an investigative reporter to join the Latin America team.

Debtwire’s Latin America product provides sophisticated investors and advisors with deep-dive coverage across the high-yield, distressed and restructuring universes. The reporter will be focused on breaking news about in-region companies, speaking with industry, financial market and advisory sources and working with a team of journalists and credit analysts based in New York and throughout the region.

Spanish or Portuguese language skills are an advantage. The position will offer the opportunity for in-region travel.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Aspirations to break news regarding Latin American corporate borrowers;
  • An understanding of fixed income securities, company balance sheets and a good grasp of the broader financial markets;
  • Strong writing skills and an investigative mind;
  • Time management and communication skills;
  • A self-starter attitude with a cooperative approach;
  • Outstanding networking and contact-building skills.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
