Dealreporter seeks real estate reporter

Dealreporter, an online news service that is part of the Mergermarket Group, has an opening for a business journalist to cover real estate investment trusts and financial services companies from New York.

This role is entirely focused on off-diary/enterprise reporting and is a great opportunity for a reporter looking to move into an investigative journalism position. Articles may range from breaking news that a REIT is for sale to revealing details on an asset manager’s IPO plans.

The right candidate needs to be able to generate original story ideas, make new sources and quickly pick up financial information. An established source book of sector, corporate finance or M&A sources is preferred, though applicants with a strong networking ability will be considered. The right candidate should be as happy reporting a story independently as working with a team of reporters based around the world.

Key Skills:

  • Keen interest in business news, mergers and acquisitions
  • Ability to interview dealmakers and senior executives
  • Existing corporate finance contact book or strong networking skills
  • Strong aptitude for understanding SEC filings, balance sheets
  • Ability to pick up on trends and develop original angles for stories
  • At least one to two years of relevant experience

Successful applicants will be invited to send clips and for phone interviews.
