Dallas Morning News seeks special writer

The Dallas Morning News is hiring a reporter to cover a new business beat reporting on Dallas-Fort Worth’s consumer-driven local companies.

Consumer goods, auto dealers and automakers, events and hotels, tourist attractions, technology companies, educational technology firms, advertising/marketing and sports business — those are some of the arenas where this reporter should expect to play.

Being able to spot a viral story before it happens, recognize trends in consumer behavior and consistently produce original enterprise about them, and possess a flair for capturing personalities in illuminating profiles and in-depth stories will be key attributes of this beat reporter. She/he will also explore the worlds of social media influencers and direct selling businesses for lessons about how they sway or are attempting to sway consumer behavior.

This writer should possess strong traditional journalism skills such as source building and interviewing acumen as well as social media know-how and an eagerness to experiment with new ways to build and grow an audience.
