Dallas Morning News seeks energy reporter

May 6, 2016

Posted by Chris Roush

The Dallas Morning News seeks a reporter to join its award-winning business news team to cover energy.

Oil and gas have long been associated with Dallas-Fort Worth’s economic vitality. We’re home to the nation’s largest oil and gas company (Exxon Mobil) and we’re where fracking became an economic tool for tapping natural gas supplies in the Barnett Shale and elsewhere around the county. We’re also tracking one of the largest leveraged buyout bankruptcies in U.S. history – an electric utility that serves most of North Texas.

It’s a beat where enterprise is paramount to distinguish our coverage from the clutter on topics as broad as falling oil prices and the rise of alternative energy sources. The beat requires a reporter with deep analytical skills and a strong desire to write a compelling mix of consumer, company and industry stories in a highly competitive environment. Applicants should bring ideas about how to grow readership for energy stories across multiple platforms.

Please submit a resume, cover letter describing how you’d approach this important beat and three (3) examples of your best work.
