The Dallas Morning News is searching for a high-energy reporter to write breaking business news in one of America’s most vibrant business markets.

How will you know if you’re the right fit?

Here are key traits you’ll need to succeed in this beat:

An insatiable curiosity about everything business. Dallas-Fort Worth’s economy is incredibly diverse so we write about the full gamut of business topics — from IPOs and buyouts to court cases involving companies, and from corporate relocations to how government actions impact business, and from profiles of emerging business leaders to local business celebrities with global appeal.

Urgency and flexibility. News seldom happens when we want it to so you’ll be someone who relishes the adrenaline of chasing a breaking story, and excels working on tight deadlines.

Digital fluency. We want to hear from you if you have a keen appreciation for what it takes to draw a highly engaged audience to our website on a regular basis. You’ll be comfortable finding stories from trending topics and social media for our site’s top of the funnel readers.

An ability to go a mile-wide and a mile-deep. You’ll also be adept at sifting through and synthesizing regulatory filings and court documents to develop exclusive stories that drive digital subscriptions. We place a premium on connect-the-dots journalism that our digital audience expects of us.

This is a role where you’ll be writing daily. The last two reporters to hold this position are now covering important beats in our highly-collaborative newsroom.
