Dallas Business Journal seeks a digital reporter
The Digital Reporter is responsible for the daily production of transactional digital stories and premium editorial events content across multiple platforms. It is mandatory that the candidate thrive in a breaking-news culture and has demonstrated experience in an online environment.
The primary role of the Digital Reporter is to craft timely and compelling stories that drive loyal engagement, grow audience and free up Business Journal staff writers to produce scoops driven by their respective beats. To do so, the Digital Reporter is expected to curate, report and write stories as well as produce interactive features, galleries and video, while contributing to the newsroom’s overall social media strategy.
The job requires solid news judgment, strong headline writing skills and familiarity with SEO. The ability to turn transactional stories quickly is critical, while not sacrificing longform content quality tied to editorial events, such as cover stories and profiles.
Generate and execute transactional, non-exclusive stories, with a specific focus on real estate.
Work with Managing Editor to execute strategy for social media, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram.
Work with editors and reporters to plan new content and features, specifically around editorial-based events and roundtables.
Help newsroom staff identify and deploy tactics to meet traffic and engagement goals.
Provide direct support to Data Reporter by sending out surveys and researching Weekly Top 25 Lists.
Regularly participate in and attend Business Journal sponsored events.
Take on any other assignment made by manager(s).
Work cooperatively and collaboratively with all colleagues and professionally with sources.
Ability to quickly turn news releases and transactional deals into short news stories
Strong headline writing and copy-editing skills
Video production experience a plus
Demonstrated use of databases and graphics to build interactive elements and features
Data entry for content management systems
Excel and/or spreadsheet tools and management
1 to 3 years of experience at an online news operation
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
