CyberRisk Alliance seeks a staff reporter

SC Media is looking for a high-caliber Staff Writer to join the CRA Security News Team. In this role, you will be responsible for writing breaking news and in-depth features for SC Media, as well as assisting with some social media management duties.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Produce high-quality, exclusive written news stories in the IT security space with an emphasis on meeting deadlines. The Staff Reporter must produce an average minimum of one news story a day.
  • Network with the professional security community, including researchers, R&D personnel and security response teams through regular phone calls, face-to-face meetings with contacts, panels and attending conferences.
  • Assist with the management of SC Media’s social media presence, uploading content to Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn in an effort to increase traffic and engagement with readers.
  • Work to ensure a high level of communication and teamwork to help improve all aspects of SC Media.
  • Work to ensure the accuracy, style and legality of all editorial content produced.
  • Participate in events, both virtual and in person, as a subject matter expert and brand ambassador for SC Media and CRA.

What You Should Have/Know:

  • At least two years of experience as a business or security news reporter working in a deadline-driven publishing environment.
  • Self-starter, comfortable working remotely and proven ability meet deadlines. Familiar with AP style. Familiar with search engine optimization basics in the context of a news environment.
  • Experience posting content to, and managing, a WordPress environment. Must have fluency with a content management system, finding/uploading/sizing of images for web, tagging stories, working with multimedia, sourcing stories from social media, leveraging the major social platforms for editorial promotion.
  • Team player who enjoys working in a collaborative newsroom, communicating with colleagues, breaking news and explaining complex topics to a specialized audience.
  • If you are to become a member of the team at SC Media, you will be expected to set high standards in every aspect of your work, including general behavior, professionalism and representing SC Media externally. Success will be measured by quality of writing, as well as analysis for longer pieces, the ability to hit deadlines and representing and raising awareness of the SC Media brand.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience (3+ years) reporting for a digital media brand, preferably in the IT space, with a focus on information security.
  • Excellent writer, yet still eager to accept an editor’s input to improve.
  • Familiarity with AP style.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications or equivalent in experience.
  • Understanding of SEO and how it can improve content performance a plus.

Salary: $65,000 to $70,000
