Crain’s New York Business is seeking a full-time news producer to work on its Web desk.
This is an ideal job for a digitally savvy journalist who has strong news judgment, coding skills and a knack for crafting headlines that sing. A successful candidate will thrive on interacting with readers on social media, as well as promote our exclusive stories to editors at other websites, blogs and media outlets. In general, the candidate will explore new ways to expand our audience and engage our readers.
Daily duties include monitoring news wires and social media for breaking news, editing and then publishing news wire stories on CrainsNewYork.com, publishing staff and print stories to the site, tweeting stories and posting stories on Facebook.
The news producer will work closely with editors and reporters on interactive graphics that can accompany articles and special sections, as well as outreach to other publications. The applicant should be detail-oriented, able to work on tight deadlines and a quick learner.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and three years’ experience working in journalism or marketing
Proven ability to write headlines for social media and SEO
Strong news judgment
Ability to quickly understand new technologies
Strongly preferred
Experience working in content management systems
Knowledge of Photoshop
Demonstrated knowledge of using various social-media platforms
Basic understanding of PHP and JavaScript
Fluent in CSS and HTML
Experience working with Google fusion tables
