Crain’s Detroit seeks reporter

We’re looking for a dynamic, self-starting reporter to cover the city of Detroit and a regional political beat for Crain’s Detroit Business.

We’re looking for a reporter who is oriented around landing scoops and analysis-oriented reporting. Candidates must be collaborative in work style and well-versed in data-driven and enterprise reporting. He or she must demonstrate advanced critical thinking skills.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated eye for details, clear and accurate writing skills — and an ability to make complex issues compelling and readable for both web and print reports. Covering a regional political beat for Crain’s Detroit Business presents perhaps a once-in-a-career opportunity to engage the business community in important policy topics, and serve in a watchdog role covering a city in the midst of bold transformation.

Requirements

This position requires 5+ years of reporting experience, with a demonstrated ability to develop sources, break news and write features.

The candidate must also be adept at using multimedia tools and demonstrate a track record for building audience and engaging with followers on social media.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill.
