Crain’s Chicago seeks a biz reporter

Crain’s Chicago Business, Chicago’s must-read website and print publication for business news and analysis, is hiring for a newly created position — government/political editor/reporter.

Job responsibilities:

  • Oversee coverage of government and politics (at city, county, state and federal levels) on a daily and long-term basis.
  • Edit government and political coverage for the web and in print.
  • Report and write stories as needed.
  • Work with other editors on presentation of stories; this includes coordinating graphics, photography and video.
  • Appear on behalf of Crain’s Chicago Business at events and in other media.

Requirements Job requirements:

  • Deep knowledge of Chicago, Cook and Illinois politics and government, as well as financial and economic matters.
  • At least three-five years of editing experience.
  • Ability to manage team of reporters and work well with fellow editors.
  • Skilled in social media and multimedia.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
