CQ Roll Call seeks committee reporter

CQ Roll Call is hiring for a committee reporter with the ability to interpret and analyze legislative proposals and communicate them clearly in writing. The preferred candidate will have knowledge of Capitol Hill and the legislative process.

DUTIES:

  • Develop and write timely stories within deadlines
  • Analyze legislative activity to provide clients with a clear understanding of congressional committee actions
  • Write descriptions of complex congressional amendments, legislation and procedural actions
  • Cultivate relationships with congressional sources for informational, journalistic and document source purposes and help colleagues do the same
  • Pitch stories and maintain a calendar of key dates and events in assigned coverage areas
  • Backstop and/or collaborate with team members and others in the newsroom on committee markup coverage
  • Perform other duties as assigned, and to be a team player

What you will need:

  • 1-2 years of reporting or congressional experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field and/or equivalent experience
  • Experience working within an editorial team of a newspaper or a similar publication
  • Extensive Researching, interviewing and writing skills
  • Ability to write objectively about legislative proposals
  • Open to accepting constructive criticism and providing feedback
  • Experience using social media to promote content, develop sources and interview subjects
  • Ability to adapt and learn new technologies
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule, including some extended work hours to meet strict deadlines
