Community Newspapers, Inc. seeks a publisher

Community Newspapers, Inc. is seeking a proven leader to manage all of the operations of our weekly newspaper in Hartwell, Georgia. The publisher is the leader of the organization and the face of the newspaper in the community. This position offers a high degree of autonomy for an experienced candidate.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Publish a distinguished and profitable weekly newspaper with excellence in news and advertising content.
  • Manage all day-to-day operations including editorial, advertising, circulation and administration.
  • Lead the newsroom, including news and sports reporters, by assigning and editing stories.
  • Write institutional editorials.
  • Develop and publish seasonal magazines throughout the year.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key advertisers, news sources and community leaders.
  • Build the brand and circulation of newspaper.
  • Prepare an annual business plan and budget for the newspaper’s operations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years in newspaper experience
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • Proficient in Adobe InDesign
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
