Columbus Dispatch seeks energy/auto reporter

The Columbus Dispatch seeks a business reporter to cover energy, manufacturing and the automotive industry.

The Columbus area is home to Honda’s primary location for manufacturing in North America, and the company also maintains research-and-development operations in the area.

This reporter also will cover the state’s resurgent energy industry, as well as serve as a consumer watchdog with coverage of the state’s utility regulators. The ideal candidate should have business news experience and experience in some or all of the beat areas mentioned here.

And the ideal candidate would come to the job with data-reporting skills as well as a digital mindset that includes regularly using video, audio and social media to tell our stories to the broadest possible audience.

The Columbus Dispatch, in the heart of Ohio’s growing capital city, has been recognized in five of the past six years by the Associated Press Media Editors as the best newspaper in Ohio, while the Business News Desk also has received numerous awards from APME, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
