Columbus Business First seeks energy reporter

December 5, 2013

Posted by Chris Roush

Columbus Business First needs an energy beat reporter who is a traditionalist when it comes to breaking news, reporting with unquestioned accuracy and writing with precision, but at ease working through digital channels, as well as print. Our reporters are exceptional in source development, fluent at spot-news and enterprise reporting and writing, and strive to own their coverage. Reporters deliver news and information across online and social media platforms, and strive to build an audience and engage with them.

Duties:

Must produce a steady stream of daily online posts that break and advance news on the topic of energy for a Central Ohio audience. Must write long-form reports for print that give meaning, perspective and insight to the news, examine people and players behind the headlines and surprise readers with compelling reporting angles and story forms.

Skills:

The job demands sound news judgment, continuous harvesting of news and information from the beats for online posts; authoritative and skilled writing; and active use of networking events, Twitter, LinkedIn and other outlets to build audience and engage in robust community interaction. Must show a range of reporting and writing skills and history of beat development. Our staffers routinely handle cameras to capture images and video for their digital news reports.

Experience:

Ideal candidates will have at least two years of experience in news reporting for online and print outlets. Knowledge of business or the Central Ohio business community is a plus. Experience with social media to source and promote content a plus.
