Columbia University seeks Pulitzer Prize administrator

The Pulitzer Prize Board annually awards 22 prizes in journalism, arts, and letters. In addition, the Board provides study fellowships to young journalists and hosts seminars on Pulitzer Prize–winning journalism to broaden and deepen public understanding of journalistic excellence and its value to democracy and civic life.

In this role, you will report to the Board chair and to the president of Columbia University.

DUTIES:

  • Supervising the Pulitzer process, including managing the entry process and working with the Board to recruit, coach, and monitor high-quality juries
  • Organizing Board meetings and the annual award luncheon; and supporting the work of standing and ad hoc Board committees
  • Answering inquiries about policies and practices from the press and the public and amplifying the mission of the Pulitzers to a broad audience
  • Executing the Board’s overall strategic plan
  • Supporting the Board’s ongoing effort to identify significant trends and issues that might prompt changes in the Plan of Award or other rules, guidelines, or procedures
  • Overseeing efforts to expand the Pulitzer’s public presence through its website, social media presence, and other means
  • Managing Pulitzer study fellowships to young journalists and hosting of seminars on Pulitzer Prize–winning journalism in order to broaden and deepen public understanding of journalistic excellence
  • Responsibly overseeing a small staff and a $1 million annual budget

QUALIFICATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight years of related experience required
