Colorado Springs Business Journal seeks a reporter

Colorado Springs Business Journal: Where the business community meets. As the premier business to business publication in Southern Colorado, the CSBJ tells business stories — the analytics, the legislation, the how-to tips — but always remembering that businesses are created by people and are run by people. We tell their stories and show how business shapes nonprofits, arts and entertainment, politics and culture. Business is the heartbeat o every city — and if you want to tell their stories, join us.

The General assignment Business Journal reporter will:

Write between two to three print stories for the Colorado Springs Business Journal each week. Stories average between 1,000-1,500 words each.

Write digital copy, to include news for daily blasts (two per week) and our websites.

Write copy for special publications, as needed.

Be responsible for pitching stories weekly to editors.

Assist with and participate in company-sponsored events, as needed.

Copy edit work to ensure accuracy before submitting.

Take photographs or otherwise obtain art for stories.

Education

College degree in journalism or communications or four-six years of experience

Salary level: $38,000-$42,000. The position will likely start in the middle range.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
