Cody Enterprise seeks an editor

The Cody Enterprise, an award-winning twice-weekly newspaper serving the vibrant community of Cody, Wyoming, is seeking an editor.

As the editor of the Cody Enterprise, you will play a crucial role in shaping the content and direction of our publication. You will be responsible for overseeing the entire editorial process, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, relevant and compelling stories that resonate with our local audience. The ideal candidate should possess a passion for journalism, strong editorial instincts, and exceptional leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of reporters, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Develop and execute the editorial calendar, strategizing content coverage to reflect local events, issues and community interests.
  • Review, edit and fact-check articles to ensure accuracy and proper grammar.
  • Stay abreast of local and regional news to identify potential story ideas and breaking news coverage opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to support revenue-generating initiatives.
  • Engage with the community to build relationships, understand readers’ preferences and maintain the newspaper’s reputation as a trustworthy news source.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field.
  • Proven experience in an editorial leadership role, ideally with a newspaper or digital news outlet.
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Knowledge of AP style and journalistic ethics.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead, mentor and inspire a diverse team.
