CNNMoney seeks small business reporter

CNNMoney is looking for a full-time small business reporter.

This reporter will be responsible for:

  • Writing breaking news and feature stories about issues relating to startups, entrepreneurs and small business trends.
  • Finding, reporting and writing stories that surprise readers. Story ideas must be sharp and compelling.
  • Reporting must be thorough and efficient. Writing must be quick and clean.
  • Taking daily news stories and finding a compelling small business angle.
  • Developing and maintaining sources who are entrepreneurs, small business owners and industry leaders.

The reporter will work closely with all aspects of CNNMoney’s staff, particularly section editors and the graphics and video teams. The reporter should: Have a passion for entrepreneurship and possess a wealth of story ideas. Be able to handle a broad range of reporting and writing assignments, including breaking news, features and larger projects and be able to juggle between multiple pieces at once. Experience covering local news and/or the small business beat is a plus.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
