CNN seeks an editor, PM – CNN Politics

This editor is an excellent communicator who is comfortable handling breaking news and thrives on finding opportunities to better serve and grow our digital audience. The PM editor will keep us competitive on breaking news in key evening hours as well as ensure we are set up for the following day, and will handle major stories that develop from Washington, on the 2024 campaign trail or anywhere in the world in close collaboration with our newsgathering and digital programming partners.

Your Role Accountabilities…

  • Edit breaking news and features from across CNN’s newsgathering operation
  • Assist with our live story platform, an essential part of our breaking news coverage.
  • Write as needed — your byline may occasionally be seen solo or as a contributing writer
  • Elevate CNN’s storytelling across digital platforms

All CNN news editors are dedicated to making sure our stories are accurate and fair so that we continue to grow the trust between CNN and our audiences. This editor will often serve as the first guiding hand on breaking news headlines and the final set of eyes before a story is distributed to millions of people worldwide. Some days may be dominated by a single, fast-moving story. Others will include handling a wide range of pieces in different forms and formats – news features, newsletters, and visual interactives.

Qualifications & Experience…

  • Willingness to work late nights, with potential schedule changes around major events
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Experience editing fast-moving breaking news
  • A clear understanding of style and grammar
  • Interest in politics and policy stories
  • Experience helping writers frame stories for a national audience
  • At least 4 years of editorial experience
  • College degree or equivalent preferred

How We Get Things Done…

This last bit is probably the most important! Here at WBD, our guiding principles are the core values by which we operate and are central to how we get things done. You can find them at www.wbd.com/guiding-principles/ along with some insights from the team on what they mean and how they show up in their day to day. We hope they resonate with you and look forward to discussing them during your interview.
