CNN seeks a talented Writer to join CNN Domestic Programming in Washington, D.C.!

Your Role Accountabilities…

A Writer for CNN is responsible for writing anchor copy, banners and teases, as well as live interview segments.  The Writer will work closely with management to ensure that the direction of each segment fits the show’s mission to be urgent and newsy.  This candidate may also be asked to update banners and scripts from the control room in real-time.  Each of these responsibilities requires the ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure.

The Writer must stay on top of all news as it develops through the day and have the ability to maximize the use of video, graphics and fonts for all assigned stories.

The candidate must have a strong work ethic and willingness to work outside of standard work hours as breaking news warrants.

Your Qualifications & Experience…

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field of study is preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years producing experience.
  • Strong interest and knowledge in politics and current events
  • Excellent writing skills and an ability to produce quality work quickly
  • Must have the ability to enterprise ideas and work well independently and with a team
  • Requires a creative thinker with the ability to find new and entertaining ways to present information, new angles to approach stories, and the organization skills to bring it all together.
  • Outstanding news judgment, critical and strategic thinking, and an ability to be persistent yet diplomatic are critical for the position.
  • Must be able to work an extended schedule as the news cycle and deadlines require
  • Must have the flexibility to work different shifts including evenings, overnights and weekends.
