We are seeking an exceptional reporter for the CBC’s expanded Business/Consumer Affairs unit. The role requires all the classic journalism skills including sound editorial judgement and strong storytelling, in addition to a finely-honed ability to tap sources and gather crucial information.
Working as part of a highly-motivated team, you will be expected to file on the full range of topics related to business and the economy. Everything from interest rates and monetary policy to technology, innovation and real estate markets. You’ll report on Canada’s corporate giants, cutting-edge enterprises as well as the small businesses that drive employment. Across the whole range of subjects, your stories for Radio, TV and Online will be informed by what general audiences find interesting, informative and useful.
The responsibilities include:
Filing daily news stories and features for Radio, TV and Online platforms
Filing Live reports as required.
Developing original story ideas
Conducting interviews
Maintaining excellent contacts
Assisting other members of the unit as required.
Qualifications
As a Senior Reporter in the Business/Consumer unit, you will need to be smartly in tune with the real world financial concerns of Canadians.
The requirements for this position include:
University degree or equivalent.
Seven years of relevant experience and recognized journalistic credentials demonstrating proven ability in the field and knowledge of the media industry
Exceptional reporting and storytelling.
Skill at producing original journalism.
Ability to research, gather and provide in-depth analysis of complex issues of significance from specialized sources.
Demonstrable experience or expertise specific to business/economic reporting.
Good understanding of economic policy and financial markets.
Ability to work efficiently and meet tight deadlines daily
Ability to work long hours and evenings as required.
Solid overall technical grasp of broadcast and online production tools and methods
Shooting and editing skill a definite asset.
In addition, your skill set includes working well under stressful conditions while maintaining a calm, professional attitude. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must.
