CNBC seeks a reporter to cover advertising and marketing

CNBC is seeking a Reporter to improve our coverage of the advertising and marketing industry.

Job Duties:

  • Break news about the advertising industry, including the business deals and the people who work in it.
  • Write smart next-minute and longer-term analysis about the advertising industry, with a focus on the shift to digital.
  • Pitch and write features, including interviews and profiles of CMOs and execs in the space.
  • Chip in on fast-breaking news across media and tech as needed, particularly Netflix, streaming, and OTT.
  • Flexibility to cover media, tech, other adjacent beats.

Qualifications/Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience covering the advertising or media industries
• Sources in and close to agencies, buyers, media, and/or tech.
• Demonstrated ability to write clean copy fast.
• Business finance experience – must be familiar with balance sheets, S-1 filings, etc.

Desired Characteristics

• Demonstrated ability to break news.
• A body of writing that demonstrates knowledge of your desired beat area.
• Strong critical thinker.
• Experience using FOIAs, court documents, and other public sources.
• Desire to work in a fast-paced digital news environment.
• Team player, must cooperate and coordinate with journalists, editors, and producers from all parts of CNBC.
• TV appearance experience a plus.
