CNBC Digital seeks Wall Street reporter

CNBC Digital is seeking a dynamic journalist with a background in both business news and web production to cover our important—and exciting—Wall Street beat, reporting and writing stories aimed at both our regular audience and for distribution to our many partner sites.

Work will include generating news and enterprise feature stories for the web site, actively contacting sources in the finance field, maintaining ongoing relationships with major players and monitoring the competition. The successful candidate will be competitive in delivering scoops, analysis and smartly conceived trend stories, and will be focused on offering compelling and engaging journalism.

The ideal candidate will comfortably engage with social media as a newsgathering tool and to understand what stories our audience is eager to embrace. The position will coordinate with the Enterprise desk for ongoing coverage of major news, issues and trends.

The staff writer will also work closely with the breaking news desk and TV editorial staff to coordinate coverage. Responsibilities will include field reporting assignments as necessary.

This is a full-time staff position at CNBC headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.

Qualifications/Requirements

• 3+ years experience as a writer and/or editor, including the ability to perform in a high-volume, multi-task/deadline oriented environment.
• Familiarity with digital conventions and activities.
• Must be highly motivated, extremely organized, detail-oriented, and possess outstanding communication and coordination skills.
• Proven ability to report and write accurately and clearly in a fast-paced news environment.
• Must be able to meet deadlines.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
